Community Recognition for Lara Secondary
Last week was very special for Lara Secondary College because we received an honourable mention in the Lara District Business Awards and also it was announced that we are Victorian state finalists in the Tidy Towns – Sustainable Communities Award - Community Government Partnerships.
The Lara District Business Awards- “ Recognising Community Contributions” were an initiative of Lara Chamber of Commerce and Lara District Community Bendigo and after an exhaustive nomination and interview process culminated in the announcement of the winners last Wednesday. We were delighted that Lara Secondary College received one of the two Honourable mentions at the Awards presentations
This was in recognition of Lara Secondary College’s ethos of being a community school which we view as a set of partnerships between the school, parents and the greater Lara community and organizations.
As your sons and daughters and our students move through the year levels at Lara Secondary College, they will work in and with our community which will support their own personal growth whilst adding value to their community.
Special mention and thank you to Dean Findlay and his media students for the stunning audio visual presentation made of the three placegetters in the awards.
Keep Australia Beautiful -Tidy Towns – Sustainable Community Awards
Lara Secondary College has been selected by the judging panel to be one of the state finalists in this prestigious award which will culminate in the winner being announced in Beechworth on Saturday 17th October.
Our finalist selection is in the Community Government Partnerships section of the awards. We have made a commitment to the Lara community that our Lara Community Performing Arts Centre will be utilised and enjoyed by every member of the Lara community from the very young to the mature aged residents of Lara.
We have put this commitment in writing, to the City of Greater Geelong, who have supported stage 1 of development financially, that we will “provide flexible and affordable access for the Community at various times when not being used for school business, including but not limited to weekends, as well as a minimum of 5 nights per week excepting school occasions”
Lara Secondary College thanks Cr. Tony Ansett, for his invaluable support, in our collaboration with the City of Greater Geelong.
Lara Secondary College will continue to develop the Lara Community Performing Arts Centre and engage with the Lara community so that all groups and members of the community have a complex that will enrich the cultural and community spirit of all.
