On Tuesday 31st May, Girls from Year 7,8 and 9 participated in the Geelong Region’s Football Finals.
The girls were very strong all day and all opposition found them very challenging. Lara started with a strong 35 point win against Bellarine High. In their second-game they overcame a half-time deficit to beat Matthew Flinders by 12 points. With the finals in sight, Lara then beat Geelong High by 29 points, and North Geelong by 30 points to finish on top of the Bellarine Division. Qualifying for the final was a massive achievement, considering that the team was hit with some key injuries.
The girls fought very hard in what was a highly-entertaining final against Grovedale. They were down by 1 point at half-time, before taking an early lead in the second half. Back-to-back goals to Grovedale gave them a 12 point lead with around 8 minutes to play. Lara kicked two late goals to level the scores. Unfortunately for the girls, a goal on the siren to Grovedale decided the game.
All students involved should be very proud of their achievements, and the way that they displayed the school values throughout the day. It was also really positive to see so many parents turn out to watch and cheer the girls on, which added to the atmosphere of the day.
