YEAR 8 GIRLS SOCCER REPORT

16 June 2017

Scores: Lara 4 lost to North Geelong 5 Goal scorers - Tara O 2, Shannon M 2

Lara 1 lost to Bellarine 2 Goal scorer - Emily D

The girls went through a fantastic warm up directed by their captain Tara O - definitely a coach in the making! After a slow start in the first game the girls came back strongly to tie up the game.

Right on the final whistle the opposition scored again to win the game. The second match was a close game throughout and our strikers had a lot of the play, but couldn't get it past the goalkeeper.

They were down two to zero at half time, but the girls scored quickly after half time, but again couldn't put another ball into the net despite a few corners. It was another very hard fought, close contest. Along with the goal scorers, the other strikers Paris T and Paige S, worked together very well. In the midfield Amy F and Danielle C made numerous tackles. In defence Sophie W, Sienna C, Grace V and Tahlia F challenged and ran their hardest to repel many forward moves by the opposition strikers.

Our two goalkeepers over the day, Mikayla M and Tahlia F, stopped goals and made some terrific clearing kicks up to the strikers. Consolation game against Geelong High - they scored more goals than us, but the referee realised just before half time that their players weren't subbing off correctly and they had too many players on the field.

When things were fixed in the second half Shannon M scored another goal for the team. Overall, a terrific effort by all players which made them very competitive against all teams. Their efforts were even more meritorious considering that they had girls from Year 7 in the team and they were up against mainly Year 8 girls.
