Lara Secondary College has a very productive partnership with St Laurence Park. This is very diverse, from our music students performing for the residents, interaction during our Year 9 Connections Program or our arts students doing projects with and for the residents.
Emma, Year 9 reports:
In choosing this Connections Program I have been visiting every Tuesday morning and helping or running, activities with the residents. We have been playing board games, helping do nail manicures and assisting in the Flinders Dementia Wing. Another group has organised the creation of a community quilt runner to hang at Costa House, around the theme of ‘Memories’. This has involved all the students making a quilt square about one of their memories. Residents have also made squares or suggested ideas to the students who have then completed the square for them.
Each week, a small group of students have organised an afternoon excursion with afternoon tea, and then helped to escort the residents on the outing. Destinations have included the RAAF Museum, Scienceworks, Melbourne Aquarium, The Lara Museum, Geelong Art Gallery, Queenscliff and Lara Secondary College.
We have established a strong and ongoing partnership with St Laurence Park Retirement Village (Lara).
