Junior School

At Lara Secondary College, Year Seven students are well supported through an extensive transition program which sets them up for a successful start to secondary school life. At the beginning of each year, the Starting Out Right Program provides students with important information about classroom and whole school processes as well as positive learning behaviours.

Throughout the Junior Years, students complete learning in core subjects; Maths, English, Science and Humanities as well as rotating electives and Indonesian. A major focus for Junior School is supporting students in Literacy and Numeracy sessions where students work on specific skills in a small group based environment alongside their English and Maths subjects.

At Year Nine, students participate in the Connections Program, which aims to push students out of their comfort zone and build personal and employability skills through work in the community and charity fundraising. Toward the end of Year Nine, students are informed of future pathways options, supporting their transition into Senior School.

Senior School

As students transition into the Senior Years they will be presented with opportunities to develop an individualised program at year 10 which will support their desired pathway. Students will complete core subjects English, Maths and Science, and will choose appropriate electives to ensure a comprehensive and extended education.

Student’s will then progress into years 11 & 12 and they will have the option to enrol in either the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), or the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) depending on their chosen career pathway, of which either may be supported by a Vocational Education & training (VET) course. Our Careers Counsellor will support each student in making informed decisions about subject choices and future pathway options throughout the senior years.
